Former Manchester United star Andy Cole slams 'ignorant' critics of England's efforts at World Cup 2010
People should look beyond the easy negatives
By Zack Wilson
The former Manchester United striker feels that too many people are focusing on whatever negatives they can find in Capello's selection methods and tactics rather than being realistic about what is going on.
The Three Lions opened the tournament with a reasonable draw last week against the United States, but too many have have shown their ignorance by reacting negatively to what they saw, according to Cole.
"People get so wrapped up in tactics," he told reporters.
"We are what we are. We're not going to go out there and smash teams five or six-nil.
"You have to take your hats off to the USA but being English, we never give the other team any credit. We just talk about how indifferent the England team is.
"In England all we do is talk about the negatives."
Cole seems to feel that Capello has got just about everything right so far and would not change much himself for the Algeria clash if he was in charge.
He expects the game to be anything but easy for the English team.
"I don't think I'd do anything differently (against Algeria). If England had ended up winning the game 1-0, would everyone be making these moans and groans? If England had lost the game everyone would be disappointed but we got a draw from the game," he added.
"That's our ignorance again, as the English, believing that because it's the United States we can go and beat them three or four-nil and typically it will be the same against Algeria.
"It's going to be a tougher game than that, Algeria are one of the best African teams."
