Over affectionate Diego gets shirty with Brazil ace...Argentina put in an excellent performance against South Korea in Thursday's World Cup clash and cruised to a 4-1 victory against the Asians, much to the delight of head coach Diego Maradona.
"The players have done a great job on the pitch. They did exactly what we discussed ahead of the game. They're proud to wear the shirt of Argentina and that shows. I'm very happy and relaxed right now," Maradona was quoted as saying in a post-match press conference.
"We dominated play for the majority of the game and fully deserved the win. The game against Nigeria already showed what we're capable of and we lived up to the expectations today.
"Martin Demichelis' flaw was the only moment where we were not in control of the game.
"We played a lot better than in the first game and we're keen to continue to improve in the upcoming matches. We're on the right track and we will not get distracted by what happens in the other groups.
"We got the chance to play our own game against the Koreans, aside from a short period after the break. They could only trouble us when we made mistakes though and we hardly did so."
Maradona was then asked why he always hugs and kisses his players after games, and the Argentina gaffer was quick to defend his actions.
"Well I still prefer women. I am dating Veronica who is blond and 31-years-old. No I have not gone limp wristed. But I like to acknowledge and congratulate my players when they play as well as they did today. That was a pleasing result and display. It was a job well done."
Finally, Maradona was asked about his recent spat with Pele and Michel Platini. Dieguito had blasted his eternal Brazilian enemy yesterday, telling him that he should "go back to the museum" while adding that he had a "distant relationship" with the UEFA president.
Maradona noted: "Platini has sent me a letter explaining that he never said what you [the press] told me. I apologize to him but not to Pele."
