Goal.com UK Poll Results: Over 41 per cent of readers think Fabio Capello should drop Robert Green from England XI at World Cup 2010
Little sympathy for goalkeeper after error against United States...
By Adithya Ananth
There had previously been intense speculation as to who would be handed the No.1 spot in the showpiece event in South Africa, as the former Real Madrid boss had kept his cards close to his chest.
However, when he finally showed his hand, West Ham United shot-stopper Green flopped by committing an absolute howler to gift Clint Dempsey the equaliser in the 1-1 draw.
Dempsey sent in a tame shot that a 'keeper would be expected to save 10 times out of 10, but Green somehow managed to fumble the ball over the goal line.
So Goal.com UK asked YOU if Capello must drop Green following the latest clanger by an English goalkeeper.
And over 41 per cent of readers believe that the Hammers' shot-stopper should be axed for the forthcoming games.
More than 25% of voters said that Green should never even have been picked ahead of David James or Joe Hart in the first place, and a further 16.23% believe that the gaffe and the criticism that has followed could have done irreparable damage to the player's confidence, insisting that it would be too great a risk to continue with him in the line-up.
Meanwhile, 19.25% of voters appear to believe that the mistake could make the 'keeper a much stronger player, maintaining that it would depend on how he responds in training over the coming days. That compares to 19.33% of people who think Green should be kept on so as not to shatter his confidence further.
And mistakes apart, 19.41% feel that Green is still the best that England have, and want Capello to stick to his guns and continue fielding the player through the course of the tournament.

"But, we came through. Obviously there were a lot of changes so it's good to get the result.
"Belgium are a very, very strong side who are going to be really good in the future. Vincent [Kompany] told me about them and said that they were coming good and I totally agree with him."
"[Gary] Cahill I suppose is slightly more of a concern for me because it is a jaw injury. We're desperately hoping the CT scan doesn't show any fracture and it's just going to be a bruising situation, which will be bad enough, but won't stop him taking part in the tournament. As far as John's [Terry] concerned he felt his hamstring a little bit. Again it wasn't a major thing when he came off but we still need to scan it just to be 100 per cent sure."
Suffice to say, if Cahill has broken his jaw, he won't play any part in the tournament.
