World Cup 2010: ITV apologise after interruption means some viewers miss England's opener against USA
ITV not the only broadcaster to have problems...
By Harry Veal
Recently appointed ITV1 presenter Adrian Chiles apologised to viewers during the half-time analysis, following an interruption to the live broadcast of the game's early moments.
Social networking site Twitter was inundated with people complaining about the gaffe, with some stating that it was an ‘embarrassment.’
This is not the first time that ITV has faced criticism over broadcasting mistakes, with a similar incident occuring during last year’s FA Cup tie between Merseyside rivals Liverpool and Everton.
The channel missed Dan Gosling’s crucial winner for the Toffees after switching to an automated advert break during extra-time.
However, they are not the only broadcaster to suffer interruption to their match coverage. Al Jazeera Sports recently claimed that ‘unnamed elements’ deliberately disrupted their coverage of the opening game between South Africa and Mexico.
The game was subject to constant losses of picture and sudden switches between English and French commentary.
“Al Jazeera Sport would like to condemn the actions of those involved in the deliberate attempts to block its signal during its World Cup broadcasts yesterday [on Friday]," an official statement from the broadcaster read.
They are reportedly backed by FIFA, with a statement attributed to the organisation on Aljazeera.net stating: “[FIFA] is appalled by any actions to try to stop Al Jazeera’s authorised transmissions of the FIFA World Cup as such actions deprive football fans from enjoying the world game in the region.”
Whoever is to blame for the mistakes, football fans around the world will just be hoping that the problems stop as the tournament progresses.

"But, we came through. Obviously there were a lot of changes so it's good to get the result.
"Belgium are a very, very strong side who are going to be really good in the future. Vincent [Kompany] told me about them and said that they were coming good and I totally agree with him."
"[Gary] Cahill I suppose is slightly more of a concern for me because it is a jaw injury. We're desperately hoping the CT scan doesn't show any fracture and it's just going to be a bruising situation, which will be bad enough, but won't stop him taking part in the tournament. As far as John's [Terry] concerned he felt his hamstring a little bit. Again it wasn't a major thing when he came off but we still need to scan it just to be 100 per cent sure."
Suffice to say, if Cahill has broken his jaw, he won't play any part in the tournament.
