England's World Cup 2010 hopes have been dealt a blow with the news that defender Ledley King has suffered an injury that rules him out of the Three Lions group C match against Algeria on Friday.

The defender was brought off at half-time in England's 1-1 draw with the USA on Saturday evening.

England manager Fabio Capello's defensive options have become stretched, with King himself filling in for defender Rio Ferdinand, who was ruled out of the World Cup after a training ground injury before the competitions start.

Jamie Carragher was called into the centre of defence after King was brought off inside the Royal Bafokeng Stadium and will likely be the preferred option ahead of centre-back Michael Dawson to partner John Terry.
