World Cup 2010: 'I think the USA will score 10 goals' - what fans are saying ahead of England's opening showdown at World Cup 2010

Party in full swing near Royal Bafokeng stadium in Rustenburg

By Noah Davis & Amar Singh in Rustenburg

England and USA supporters today descended on the tiny bars and cafes around the Royal Bafokeng Stadium in Rustenburg, to get in the mood for tonight's World Cup 2010 showdown.

Fans blared vuvuzelas, waved flags and enjoyed the cheap food and drinks beneath sunny skies. Goal.com UK interrupted the partying to get some predictions for the big game.

Alex Hunter, 25. An engineer from Newcastle

"England are going to win 2-0. Rooney and Lampard will score. This is going be a stroll. I watched USA in their last friendly against Australia. They won 3-1 but they were poor and Australia were even poorer."

Guleid Hussen, 34, engineer from San Francisco and Mike Levitt, 26, a journalist from Stamford, Connecticut

Mike: "What really matters is a good performance. Our biggest games come later in the group stage. Final score today will be 2-1 England."

Guleid: "2-1, United States. England are incredibly talented, but historically they don't play well together. The U.S. is scrappy and hard working. I'm worried about Onyewu in the back, but I think we'll pull it out."

Kelly Hill, 31, Anthea Lawrence, 32, and Lisa Bowler, 32 from Langdon Hill, Essex.

Kelly: "It will be close, maybe 2-1 to England. I don't mind a couple of goals, makes it more exciting."

Anthea: "This will not be an easy game, but England will win it 3-1."

Lisa: "2-1 for me, Rooney will score. We are so excited, we are following England's group games on a two-week round trip and really enjoying ourselves."

Michael Dade, 45. A trade show manger from New York City.

"USA 2, England 2. We will see Altidore score a goal and Carlos Bocanegra."

Richard Rose, 45. A builder from Birmingham

"England will win 2-1. I can see the US getting a lucky early goal and then we'll smash 'em. Two goals for Rooney. If he plays to his potential this will be his tournament."

Tre, 5. Student from Cincinnati, Ohio.

"USA will get 10 goals."

Christine, 41. An office manager from New York City and
Vicki, 39. A realtor from Arizona

Christine: "I'm hopeful the United States will win today, maybe 2-1."

Vicky: "The USA is definitely going to beat England, and I think it's going to be 1-0."

Andy Keates, 31. A salesman from Cheshunt

"It's going to be 2-1 to England. I think the US will nick one and we do make mistakes - but Crouchy and Rooney will save the day for England."

Crystal Fredricks, 29 and Julie Fredricks, 47 from Johannesburg

Crystal: "I am hoping for a 2-0 win tonight for England. Gerrard will score and maybe Rooney. I have been living in London for three years so love England and Liverpool!

Julie: "My daughter has made me a Liverpool and England fan. Come on captain Steven Gerrard!"

We're still getting plenty of Hazard chat on Twitter. A few are now saying that he's not worth the hype, others saying he was brilliant(!?) and others (which I agree with), saying he created much of his own hype. What do you think? Get involved!

Joe Hart has also been giving his thoughts after the Belgium game: "It was a really tough game, a good run out. I thought we played well, [but] we were a little bit bitty at times.

"But, we came through. Obviously there were a lot of changes so it's good to get the result.

"Belgium are a very, very strong side who are going to be really good in the future. Vincent [Kompany] told me about them and said that they were coming good and I totally agree with him."
19:38 BST
Here's Roy Hodgson's reaction to the result and some injury chat: "I'm very pleased, it's been a hard week and we've used a lot of players. There was a lot of disruption in the second-half with substitutions – some forced upon us, some we wanted to do. But it's still a very good end to the week playing against a good Belgian team here. Arguably even stronger than the Norwegian team we played last week and I've got to be more than happy that we've come out with another victory."

"[Gary] Cahill I suppose is slightly more of a concern for me because it is a jaw injury. We're desperately hoping the CT scan doesn't show any fracture and it's just going to be a bruising situation, which will be bad enough, but won't stop him taking part in the tournament. As far as John's [Terry] concerned he felt his hamstring a little bit. Again it wasn't a major thing when he came off but we still need to scan it just to be 100 per cent sure."

Suffice to say, if Cahill has broken his jaw, he won't play any part in the tournament.
19:35 BST
And another point from today: Eden Hazard wasn't great. Don't think you can judge him on one performance though. What do you think? Is it just a case of too much hype around the Chelsea-bound Belgian?
19:32 BST
We're getting plenty of people saying it was boring. PLENTY. But Spain scored seven goals in eight games at the World Cup and I didn't hear too many of their fans complaining. Or as Fran Stinchcombe points out on Twitter: "If we had lost but played free flowing attacking football would these people still have moaned?"
