Star pair will be fired up by snub...
The duo were left out by France head coach Raymond Domenech and England manager Fabio Capello for this summer's festivities in South Africa. For Walcott in particular, the decision to cut him from the 30-man provisional squad was a surprise move.
Speaking to reporters today, Wenger stated that the pair must use the "massive disappointment" as a springboard to an improvement in form for the Gunners.
"It was two massive disappointments for the players of course first and for me. I must say I was hugely surprised in both occasions," Wenger said.
"I had a little connection with him [Walcott] after that and it is very difficult to swallow to be out of the World Cup when you have 90 per cent chance.
"It's disappointing but I hope they can transform that in the future with a higher motivation and come back with even more desire to show how good they are. That's the only way we have in our job.
"You forget many times that in this job you have to be strong mentally and there's no big career without big disappointments. But, it was a massive surprise I must say."
