Security in South Africa questioned after fans stampede gates before Nigeria international friendly
Fans storm ground as Nigeria meet North Korea...
By Paul Macdonald
The Makhulong stadium in Johannesburg has a capacity of around 10,000 spectators, and upon officials opening the gates to let supporters in, a rush started and several people were seen falling under the ensuing surge.
Police proceeded to close the gates to curtail the swell forward, but when they reopened a second surge occurred and yet more people fell under the weight of the crowd.
The gates were then closed for a second time before the crowd dispersed. A policeman was hurt in the crush and other supporters suffered minor injuries.
The incident takes place less than a week before the World Cup tournament kicks-off in Johannesburg, with hosts South Africa facing Mexico at Soccer City on Friday.
The spotlight will now be firmly focused on how the host nation tightens security throughout the tournament, with African football having an unfortunate past when it comes to crowd control.

"But, we came through. Obviously there were a lot of changes so it's good to get the result.
"Belgium are a very, very strong side who are going to be really good in the future. Vincent [Kompany] told me about them and said that they were coming good and I totally agree with him."
"[Gary] Cahill I suppose is slightly more of a concern for me because it is a jaw injury. We're desperately hoping the CT scan doesn't show any fracture and it's just going to be a bruising situation, which will be bad enough, but won't stop him taking part in the tournament. As far as John's [Terry] concerned he felt his hamstring a little bit. Again it wasn't a major thing when he came off but we still need to scan it just to be 100 per cent sure."
Suffice to say, if Cahill has broken his jaw, he won't play any part in the tournament.
