England manager Fabio Capello has quashed fears that Manchester United striker Wayne Rooney will be suffering from exhaustion when the World Cup gets underway in June.

There have been suggestions that a number of the Italian's key performers could suffer from burn-out before the summer trip to South Africa, with leading players facing a gruelling schedule in May with the climax of the Premier League, Champions League, FA Cup and Europa League.

However, Capello has moved to dismiss any fears in the Three Lions' camp, indicating it was not in the best interests of their club managers to over-play their stars.

He told the Independent on Sunday: “I am not worried about [Wayne] Rooney burning out because he is so strong. He could play every game, he has that strength and energy.

“[Frank] Lampard and [John] Terry are the same, but the players have to understand that the manager decides. I am confident Alex Ferguson and Carlo Ancelotti will take care of their players.

“They will also want their top players in good condition for the big games at the end of the season.”

Rooney has been in scintillating form for the Red Devils this season, scoring 22 times to put himself top of the division's scoring charts and United second in the Premier League.
