Becks pleased as another big name arrives...
Henry has moved on a free transfer from Barcelona to the New York Red Bulls and could find himself sharing a pitch with Beckham at some point in the near future.
The former Arsenal striker has said since his move was confirmed that he is looking to continue the development of football in the United States, which was also amongst Beckham’s aims when he joined the Galaxy from Real Madrid.
Speaking in a live global Yahoo! interview, the Englishman commented on the deal, saying he was thrilled to see a player of Henry’s calibre arrive in the MLS.
“It’s a great thing,” said Beckham.
“Henry is a great player and his name is exceptional so it raises the profile of the league.
“I am really looking forward to playing against him. We are good friends and he is an exceptional talent.”
Beckham was also positive about the MLS’ progress and talked up the chances of him taking over a franchise at some point in the future.
“Soccer will and has been taking off, the league is set up just right," he added.
"There are new franchises being set up like Seattle, who get 35,000 fans every game and have that secured for the next two to three years.
“The MLS has only been running for 13-14 years, whereas others in the world have been around for a lot longer, so it’s always going to take some time, but it will happen.
“[Taking over a franchise] is definitely a big possibility, I can see myself living in America for a long time after my football career has finished.”
