Former Aston Villa midfielder Lee Hendrie has joined Bandung FC, an Indonesian club in their breakaway football league.
The 33-year-old spent 12 years playing for the Birmingham-based club before his career took him to Sheffield United, Derby County and Bradford City. He has now signed a two-year contract with his new employers, and will play for the club located in the third largest city in the country.
"He will act as a link-man and second striker who will supply our forwards...his presence will give us a lift," said Mohamad Kusnaeni, chief executive of Bandung, according to The Telegraph.
"He will be a role model for other players at Bandung FC given his experience playing in the best league in the world.
He added: "As a [globally known] player, Lee Hendrie will be appointed our football ambassador for coaching grassroot and youth development players in Bandung."
Bandung is part of an independent league in Indonesia that has not received backing from the Football Association of Indonesia, but has reportedly been well received by the sports minister of the country.
