De Boer: I feel sorry for Cocu

The former Netherlands international got one over his former international team-mate on Sunday as Ajax defeated PSV but hopes he gets his side going again before the season is over
Frank De Boer said he "felt sorry" for PSV boss Phillip Cocu after his Ajax side ran out 1-0 winners over their old rivals at the Amsterdam ArenA.

The win means Ajax sit top of the Eredivsie, level on points with second-placed Vitesse, and stretched their lead over PSV to 24 points.

And De Boer admitted he felt for his former Netherlands team-mate, with the Eindhoven club sat in eighth spot as their disastrous season continues.

De Boer told reporters after the game: "It will be very difficult for PSV to win the title. I think they are done for this season. Of course I feel a bit sorry for Phillip [Cocu]. He is a good friend of mine. But I think it will eventually turn out right for him and PSV."

Kolbeinn Sigthorsson scored the only goal of the game on 64 minutes and despite the narrow nature of the scoreline, De Boer felt his side deserved all three points after an improved second half showing.
He added: "PSV did well in the first half. But we also had our chances. Especially from the left flank. But when you look at the chances, PSV probably deserved a goal. I had the feeling that my players were giving 80 percent.

"In these games you have to give all you've got. There was a lack of agression in the first half. Second half was much better. The goal of Sigthorsson was superb. Especially the pass from [Lasse] Schone."
