Shakhtar Donetsk coach Mircea Lucescu in hospital following car accident - report
The 66-year-old's SUV was struck by a tram and he was rushed to hospital with chest injuries, after suffering three broken ribs as a result of the crash
Shakhtar Donetsk coach Mircea Lucescu has been hospitalised following a car crash in his native Romania, according to AP.
The 66-year-old was admitted to hospital along with another passenger after his SUV was struck by a tram.
Bogdan Oprita, chief of the city's paramedics said that Lucescu was conscious, but incurred chest injuries.
Romanian publication Gsp.ro revealed that Lucescu suffered three broken ribs as a result of the crash and will undergo surgery to remove the accumulated blood in his chest cavity.
The former Inter and Galatasaray boss took charge of the Ukrainian side in 2004 and has delivered five league titles and the 2009 Uefa Cup to the Donbass Arena.

"[Gary] Cahill I suppose is slightly more of a concern for me because it is a jaw injury. We're desperately hoping the CT scan doesn't show any fracture and it's just going to be a bruising situation, which will be bad enough, but won't stop him taking part in the tournament. As far as John's [Terry] concerned he felt his hamstring a little bit. Again it wasn't a major thing when he came off but we still need to scan it just to be 100 per cent sure."
Suffice to say, if Cahill has broken his jaw, he won't play any part in the tournament.
