The Aston Villa boss has expressed his annoyance at Giovanni Trapattoni's decision to bring the defender into his squad despite his inability to play due to injury

Aston Villa manager Paul Lambert has expressed frustation at Republic of Ireland boss Giovanni Trapattoni's decision to call-up the injured Richard Dunne.

The veteran defender has been out since undergoing surgery on his groin last month and will be unable to play in the upcoming World Cup qualifiers against Germany and the Faroe Islands.

And Lambert has questioned the need for the former Manchester City man to be in the squad when he is yet to play a first-team game for the Villans.

Lambert told the Irish Examiner: "It is strange him being included in the Ireland squad as he is not playing here at the moment. It is up their manager but I do not know why they have done it.

"He is doing all right — it is slow but sure. But it is pretty frustrating. He is doing some training but only with the reserves as there is no pressure on him.

"There is no use in pushing him when is still not fit. I will just wait and see."

The Scot also dismissed speculation surrounding the 33-year-old's long-term future at Villa Park, saying: "He certainly has a future here at Villa and once he is fit Richard will come back into contention."
