Reading manager McDermott pleased with squad

The Royals boss says he is happy with the seven players he has brought in during the summer transfer window and is raring to go for the new Premier League season

Reading manager Brian McDermott has revealed his satisfaction with his work in the transfer window, and believes his squad is good enough to compete in the Premier League.

The 51-year-old has had a busy summer, having made nine additions to his squad hoping to ensure that his recently promoted side can avoid relegation.

And McDermott has admitted that there are unlikely to be further acquisitions ahead of the transfer window closing.

"Summer has been good. We've signed seven players," McDermott told Sky Sports News. "We've got the group that we had together last season and we're looking forward to Saturday.

"If something comes off late in the window then maybe but there's nothing in the pipeline.

"We've got experienced players; players who have played in the league. And we've got players who are at a good age - they all are.

"They're all hungry, that's the most important thing. We've got a group that wants to do well and get better.

"We've had a core group together now for quite a long time so I think that augurs well for us."
