Controversy surrounded the Argentine last season but can he be given another chance to impress at Eastlands or should the Blues continue their Robin van Persie pursuit?
After Carlos Tevez’s misdemeanours last season and Arsenal hitman Robin van Persie continually being linked with a big money move to the Etihad, we’re asking you whether the Argentine is far enough down the road of redemption to continue the first-team opportunities afforded to him at the end of last season.
Tevez has been a controversial figure in Manchester over the years but surpassed all previous transgressions when he refused to come on as a substitute in the club’s Champions League defeat to Bayern Munich last September.
The former club captain spent a further six months in wilderness after manager Roberto Mancini claimed he’d never play for City again, but returned to the starting line-up in April, providing the catalyst for the club’s Premier League title revival.
And Tevez has continued that impressive form into pre-season, scoring in the club’s 3-1 win over a Malaysian XI yesterday.
Tevez’s infamous refusal to play seems to be water under the bridge as far as Mancini is concerned, but are Manchester City fans so willing to forgive and forget after the public undermining of the club?
City’s strikeforce has been the subject of transfer speculation all summer, with the futures of Tevez and Edin Dzeko uncertain and reports suggesting Van Persie’s arrival at the Etihad could be imminent.
The Dutchman was in magnificent form for Arsenal last season, netting 38 goals in 52 appearances for the club and would be a fearsome addition to City’s already cosmopolitan front line. But is he worth it or can the Argentine provide similar results?
