Brazilian players have had a mixed time in the Premier League. For every Juninho there seems to have been a Kleberson and England's top flight has suffered a couple of near misses in its attempts to lure in the likes of Ronaldinho and Kaka.
In a period of transition for the Selecao, a number of young stars battling to win a place in the national team XI have been linked with moves to Europe in order to prove themselves against the best players in the world.
Already having made that switch is 23-year-old Willian, who already has three Ukrainian Premier League titles under his belt with Shakhtar Donetsk.
The Champions League quarter-finalists, however, have found it difficult to fend off the interest of Chelsea, rejecting a first bid in January before turning down a new £26 million offer on Tuesday. They have consigned themselves to releasing the attacking midfielder if the Blues can stump up a figure closer to the reported fee of £32m they splashed on Eden Hazard.
Plenty of attention, however, remains on the domestic league in Brazil. There, 20-year-old Internacional playmaker Oscar plies his trade and has been strongly linked with a switch to either Tottenham or Chelsea.
Reports in Brazil have indicated that the former Sao Paulo player is close to sealing a move to Stamford Bridge but Roberto Di Matteo played down those claims on Tuesday.
Also in-demand is Lucas Moura, who has won 15 caps for the national team despite being only 19-years-old. Goal.com has revealed that Manchester United could be put off by the club and player's £30m asking price but Inter remain interested.
Arsenal, fresh off the acquisitions of Lukas Podolski and Olivier Giroud, have also reportedly joined the race to sign a Brazilian star by targeting Corinthians midfielder Paulinho.
The 23-year-old stands at 6' 3" and was included in the top division's team of the year for the 2011 season.
But which of these stars most merits the manic interest being shown in them? Is Willian, having established himself in the Champions League, ready to take the next step? Can Oscar live up to his growing reputation? Should United go the extra mile and break the bank to secure Lucas Moura, or has Arsene Wenger struck gold by identifying Paulinho?
