After the recent departure of the now former Liverpool manager Rafael Benitez, we asked the Goal.com UK readers who should replace the Spaniard at Anfield.

The favourite of readers is current Turkey coach Guus Hiddink. The Dutch manager has recently become a specialist in the field of national team management with spells at South Korea, who he took to the semi-finals of the 2002 World Cup, as well as Australia, Russia and now Turkey.

He also managed Chelsea for the last period of the 2008-09 season, winning the FA Cup during his time with the London club and boasts six Eredivisie titles in his native Holland as well as a Champions League medal.

With that wealth of success and experience in mind 16.72 per cent of voters chose the Dutchman to succeed Benitez at Anfield.

The second choice for the Reds throne was Liverpool legend Kenny Dalglish with 13.41 per cent of the vote, while Aston Villa manager Martin O’Neill was close behind with 12.46 per cent.

Galatasaray manager Frank Rijkaard got 9.98 per cent just ahead of Fulham manager Roy Hodgson, whose stock has been rising after a Europa League final spot last term and he received 7.06 per cent of the vote.

Louis van Gaal becomes the third Dutchman on the list and the Bayern Munich boss received 5.79 per cent of your votes, marginally in front of Manuel Pellegrini, recently usurped by Jose Mourinho at the Bernabeau, who gathers 5.47 per cent as well as his large compensation package.

Moving down the list Mark Hughes got 3.81 per cent of the vote, Slaven Bilic gained 3.12 per cent of the vote, while the mercurial “other” received 3.05 per cent of your votes, which was more than the 2.92 per cent that went to the former Tottenham striker Juergen Klinsmann, who is currently out of work.

The current Liverpool assistant manager Sammy Lee received 2.29 per cent and after spending time wandering the wilderness of the Uzbekistani league, 2.16 per cent of readers are calling for Luiz Felipe Scolari to return to the rat race.

Some readers, 2.1 per cent in fact, want Harry Redknapp to abandon Tottenham’s first Champion’s League adventure to take up the Anfield hot seat, while the former Newcastle ‘messiah’ Kevin Keegan is wanted by 1.84 per cent of the voters.

Current Italian stalwart and illustrious chain smoker Marcello Lippi is the man for the Liverpool job according to 1.65 per cent of those who voted. Dutchman Marco van Basten got just 1.59 per cent of the vote.

Juande Ramos, got 1.21 per cent, while at 1.08 per cent we find the former England gaffer Sven-Goran Eriksson. The fiery Birmingham manager Alex McLeish receives 0.89 per cent of your votes and he is closely followed by another Real Madrid discard Bernd Schuster who attained 0.83 per cent of the vote.

Scraping the bottom of the barrel we find West Ham’s former saviour Alan Curbishley and the much travelled John Toshack who is currently stewarding Wales’ youthful national team through the qualifying stages of the European Championships of 2012. They received a lowly 0.32 per cent and 0.25 per cent respectively.
