thumbnail Hello,

The Chelsea left-back has retired from international football after his omission - but should the veteran have been given one last tournament before bowing out?

POLL

With Roy Hodgson opting to include Luke Shaw in his England squad for the World Cup, Ashley Cole will be forced to watch the tournament in Brazil from afar.

The Chelsea left-back has since announced his retirement from international football, and has gone on record in wishing the England team, along with Shaw and Leighton Baines, all the best in their quest for glory.

Cole, who has made 107 appearances for his country, has had few chances to impress Hodgson, with Cesar Azpilicueta preferred to him on the left-hand side at Stamford Bridge this season.

But after impressing against both Liverpool and Atletico Madrid in the latter weeks of the campaign, reports suggested he, not Shaw, would be on the plane to South America.

Shaw has had an excellent breakthrough season for Southampton, but should Cole have been selected given his previous tournament experience and late season form?
