After scoring a late winner for Real Madrid against Barcelona on Wednesday night, has the £86 million man proved his worth for his new side or does he still have work to do?
Gareth Bale scored a stunning 85th-minute winner as Real Madrid beat Barcelona in the Copa del Rey on Wednesday night.
Bringing back memories of his rise to prominence against Inter in 2010, he stormed past an opposition right-back, this time Marc Bartra, and slotted a low drive past the goalkeeper following a lung-busting run.
Indeed, that famous hat-trick three-and-a-half years ago saw the Welshman's stock soar as a number of Europe's elite took notice, with a world-record £86 million transfer to Real Madrid confirmed last summer.
Ahead of the 2-1 win, Goal's Ben Hayward called on Bale to justify his record-breaking fee after failing to impress in his past two games against Barcelona and with Cristiano Ronaldo ruled out through injury.
So, has he? Or has he still got work to do?
Before the Copa del Rey win - Bale's first trophy success in his professional career - the Welshman had notched 19 goals from his first 38 games, with a further 15 assists, so did he have nothing to prove?
