The Blues' shock Capital One Cup exit at the hands of Sunderland puts their silverware aspirations in perspective ahead of a crucial few weeks in the Premier League
Chelsea's shock Capital One Cup defeat at the hands of Sunderland on Tuesday evening put paid to a big opportunity for Jose Mourinho to win his first trophy since returning to Stamford Bridge.
Goals from former Blues striker Fabio Borini and Ki-Sung Yueng undid the good work of Frank Lampard's opener and exposed the west Londoners' long-standing defensive vulnerabilities.
Elsewhere the picture looks rosier. Chelsea lie third in the Premier League, two points behind leaders Arsenal - who they face on Monday - and have a relatively kind draw agaisnt Galatasaray in the Champions league last 16.
But Mourinho has so far proved unable to forge Roman Abramovich's latest group of talented individuals into a convincingly coherent team, and Tuesday's defeat puts their trophy aspirations in perspective.
What do you think? Will Chelsea end up without a trophy this season? Or will Mourinho's men improve and gather momentum in time for the crucial stage of the campaign?
