Despite being brought to the Santiago Bernabeu to win los Blancos' 10th Champions League crown - la Decima - the Portuguese boss has lost his three semi-final clashes
Jose Mourinho has had a mixed time at Real Madrid, it is fair to say. He was brought to the Santiago Bernabeu by club president Florentino Perez in 2010 with two aims; topple Barcelona and win the Champions League.
And although he saw off the threat of Barca - and Pep Guardiola - by winning La Liga in breathtaking fashion last season, he has failed to capture European football's biggest prize in three attempts and will leave the club this summer, having agreed to rejoin Chelsea.
Madrid were eliminated from the Champions League on Tuesday, and although los Blancos have had the better of the Blaugrana in recent meetings, Tito Vilanova's side could regain the league title this weekend if results go their way.
And while Mourinho can win the second Copa del Rey of his reign when his men face city rivals Atletico Madrid on May 17, he may leave the Bernabeu with a sense of regret that he has not been able to deliver the fabled Decima.
Do you think Jose Mourinho has been a failure at Real Madrid?
What do you think? Has Mourinho been a success by virtue of winning the league title in such dominant fashion last season? Or has he simply not fulfilled his brief by not triumphing in Europe?
