Poll of the Day: Are Everton right to sell Tim Cahill?

The Australian attacker looks set to end his eight-year association with the Merseysiders after a £1 million deal was agreed with New York Red Bulls

Everton have today confirmed that Australian midfielder Tim Cahill is set to leave Goodison Park, with a £1 million move to New York Red Bulls in the offing.

Cahill has been a revelation at the Toffees since joining in 2004 for £1.5 million from Championship side Millwall.

A versatile attacker, the popular Australian was best renowned for his goal celebration of boxing the corner flag and despite his smaller frame of 5’10, his incredible aerial ability.

Such talents enabled the 32-year-old to net 68 goals in 278 appearances for Everton, helping them to consistent top 6 finishes and their first Champions League qualification in 2006.

The last couple of years have seen a sharp decline in the Cahill’s performances though, scoring just 3 times in his last 52 appearances for the Merseysiders.

And at 32, David Moyes has taken the decision to allow the Goodison Park favourite to leave and give fresh talent such as Ross Barkley, his chance in the starting lineup.

So we’re asking you in the Poll of the Day, what do you think to David Moyes’ decision to show Cahill the exit door?

Are his best days well and truly behind him with the money recouped used for other signings to strengthen the squad?

Or after 8 years with the club, should he have been given another chance to show he can still perform at the top level for Everton?
