thumbnail Hello,

Torres, Carroll, Suarez and Luiz were among big money deadline day deals

The January transfer window broke new records in the Premier League this season, with over £200 million spent in just one month.

Darren Bent’s £18m move to Aston Villa from Sunderland, which could rise to £24m, sprung the market into life, with four even more expensive deals being completed later in the window.

Eleven days prior to Bent’s shock Stadium of Light exit, a long awaited deal did go through, as Edin Dzeko joined Manchester City from Wolfsburg for a fee in the region of £27m.

So other than Bent and Dzeko, Steven Pienaar’s transfer from Everton to Tottenham, who he chose over Chelsea, was the only other ‘big’ deal of the month in England - until transfer deadline day.

After a day of speculation surrounding Andy Carroll and Fernando Torres, the duo finally completed their respective moves to Liverpool and Chelsea with little time to spare before the deadline.

And as well as signing Carroll, Liverpool had earlier snapped up Luis Suarez from Ajax following days of will he/won’t he rumours about signing for the club, while Chelsea reignited their move for David Luiz, also signing the Benfica defender with not long to go before the close of the window.
