Sunderland Fanview: 'With O'Neill in charge, expectations are high again'

"Stephane Sessegnon is key to any success we have" - a Black Cats fan offers his thoughts ahead of the new Premier League season

The target: Top ten

To finish back in the top ten and have a good cup run hopefully.

My thoughts on the gaffer...

He's the perfect man for the job!

Martin O'Neill's man management skills are second to none and his first full season in charge has got all the supporters optimistic again.

Our key man this season

Stephane Sessegnon. He is key to any success we have this season and we must keep hold of him.

Youngster to watch

After breaking into the first team last season, Jack Colback has certainly come on leaps and bounds and is finally showing his full potential.

A player who must deliver

Connor Wickham. Despite still being a youngster, he has to live up to his £8 million price tag.
Our Achilles heel

Titus Bramble. You never know what you’re going to get with him unfortunately, both on and off the pitch.

Fixture I am looking forward to the most...

It’s got to be Newcastle at home. Always a special game, full of controversy and excitement as you would expect in a derby.

Our toughest opponents will be...

Everton… as usual, even though Tim Cahill (who always scores against us) has buggered off to the MLS, thank god.

Player we love to hate

Now that he’s back in the Premier League, it has to be Kevin Nolan. Never liked him personally.

Rival Premier League player you'd have in your team

Gareth Bale. If you had four of him they’d all get a game in various positions. Great all round player who has all the attributes required to be a top player.

My first choice XI

My verdict

The players needed a long break after the exertions of last season. And with O’Neill in charge for his first full season, expectations are high again. At least four quality players are needed, including a proven goalscorer if we are to finish in the top ten.
