Late Crouch header sends Spurs into Champions League...MANCHESTER CITY
Marton Fulop - 7 - Fortunate to see an attempted kick upfield clatter off Crouch but loop up in the air and straight back to him. Finger-tip save off a Defoe effort, and sharp stop of Crouch header in the second half showed why City turned to Sunderland for him in the absence of Shay Given. Desperately unlucky with the goal.
Pablo Zabaleta - 6 - Leant useful support in attack, not least with a shot that deflected onto the roof of the net in the first half.
Kolo Toure - 6 - Should have done better with a free header from a corner kick routine in the first half. Terrific defensive header prevented Crouch from latching on to a Lennon floater midway through the second half.
Vincent Kompany - 5.5 - Lost Crouch at a set-piece in the first half and will have been relieved when the Spurs man's header smacked back off the post. Did better soon after, with a good block of a Bale shot.
Wayne Bridge - 6 - Dealt well enough with the threat of Lennon, and later Bentley.
Adam Johnson - 6 - Excellent low shot forced a good save from Gomes, and a well-won header brought an even better one from the Spurs No.1.
Nigel De Jong - 5.5 - Keen to get on the ball throughout but had little influence on the flow of the game in an attacking sense.
Gareth Barry - 6 - Early opening eluded him due to a slip in the penalty area. Decent enough showing, but was replaced by Vieira on 57 minutes.
Craig Bellamy - 5 - Eerily quiet on a night you would have expected him to bring his usual menace. Too easily beaten in defence as Kaboul swung over the cross for the winner. Subbed straight after.
Emmanuel Adebayor - 6 - The Togolese striker must be made of velcro - everything his City team-mates pinged at his body stuck. Rarely allowed a sight of goal by Dawson and King, though.
Carlos Tevez - 6 - The first player his team-mates would look for when on the ball, the Argentine had two fantastic runs early in the first half but gradually fell from the centre of the action.
Patrick Vieira - 5.5 - On for Barry having lost his starting place to the same player.
Shaun Wright-Phillips - 5.5 - Replaced Johnson with 20 minutes to go.
Roque Santa Cruz - n/a - Late introduction in place of Bellamy.
Heurelho Gomes - 6 - Smartly out to block Tevez shot after the City man's lung-busting run in the opening exchanges, then made two even better saves from a couple of Adam Johnson efforts.
Younes Kaboul - 6 - Clattered into Bellamy early on, which seemed to quieten the Welshman. Skipped past his direct opponent to deliver the cross that brought the only goal.
Michael Dawson - 8 - Unflappable at the back, which is quite an achievement against Tevez's tenacity and Adebayor's physicality.
Ledley King - 8 - Converted a bullet header in much the same fashion as he did in Manchester last month against United, only this time he was penalised for climbing on the shoulders of Barry.
Benoit Assou-Ekotto - 7 - Coped well with the wing threat of Johnson, whose best moments came when moving in field or from set-pieces.
Aaron Lennon - 5.5 - His first start of 2010, and perhaps some rustiness led to him opting to shoot when team-mate Bale was far better placed to his left at the start of the second half. Substituted with 20 minutes left.
Tom Huddlestone - 6 - Worked hard in midfield without ever really imposing himself on the game.
Luka Modric - 6 - Remained on the fringes of the game when Spurs would have preferred for him to be pulling the strings. What he did, he did well.
Gareth Bale - 7 - Wicked set-piece delivery allowed Crouch to head against the post, then showed great technique with two volleyed efforts in the first half that might have produced goals on a more fortunate evening.
Jermain Defoe - 5.5 - Another quiet game on another big night. Was inches away from applying the scoring touch to Assou-Ekotto's low cross, though.
Peter Crouch - 6.5 - A real handful for the City defence, most notably when directing a header off the post in the first half. Probably should have left Fulop without a chance with header in the latter stages, but turned home goal with aplomb.
David Bentley - 6 - On for Lennon as the game entered the closing stages.
Wilson Palacios - n/a - Late introduction for Modric.
Roman Pavlyuchenko - n/a - Replaced Defoe with 10 minutes to go.
