MANCHESTER UNITED

Edwin Van der Sar - 6 - One of the easiest games of the Dutchman's career. Little to do except collect a few crosses.

Rafael da Silva - 7 - Bounced back from poor display against Manchester City. Marked Hunt out of the game and linked well with Nani.

Rio Ferdinand
- 6 - Perfect match for a comeback. Dealt easily with limited threat of Fagan and showed desire of old to bring the ball out of defence. Could face action for swing at Fagan.

Jonny Evans - 7 - Schoolboy defending against City was consigned to past with an assured performance. Quick to march forward to give an extra man in midfield.

Patrice Evra - 6 - Quiet match compared to his usual high standard. Few incursions of note into Hull territory.

Nani - 8 - Looked more comfortable on the right flank. Breezed past Dawson with impunity, set up Rooney's third and Owen should have scored from an excellent through ball in the first half. Even demonstrated the awareness to track back.

Paul Scholes - 8 - Still has the ability to strike gold if given the freedom of the pitch. Hull's tardiness in closing him down was punished when a trademark thunderbolt shot spilled to Rooney for the opener. Dictated the tempo throughout.

Darren Fletcher - 7 - Corralled Hull's limited attack into the path of Evans and Ferdinand. Put his foot in with frequency to win the ball back and played a number of intelligent crosses to the back post.

Ji-sung Park - 6.5 - Contributed to United's quiet left side. Rarely had the beating of McShane and proved more effective when pushed inside.

Michael Owen - 7 - Carried on the good work from his cameo role in midweek. Played well off Rooney's shoulder. Will regret tame shot from an exquisite first half move he began on the halfway line.

Wayne Rooney - 9 - Four-goal salvo confirmed his status as an unstoppable Premier League force. Was on spot to place Myhill's parry past him for his first goal, hammered home a second, headed in another then crafted the space to score a fourth. Always fully aware of the big picture around him. Booked for lunge on Hunt.

Fabio da Silva

Darron Gibson - 7 - Set up Rooney's second after earlier exasperating him with a wayward shot when he could have played him in.

HULL CITY

Boaz Myhill - 6 - Couldn't repeat the trick from last weekend of keeping out the opposition but still pulled out a number of impressive saves. May have regrets about not palming out Scholes' rasping drive to safety, however.

Paul McShane - 6 - Kept Evra and Park quiet which is no easy task. Stuck to the job of quelling the pair throughout. Threw his body into the game and performed well on return to Old Trafford.

Anthony Gardner - 4 - Superiority in height wasn't reflected in the number of headers won against United's vertically challenged twosome. Too often left chasing shadows.

Kamil Zayatte - 4 - Used his pace to cut out a number of promising passes from the visitors over the top but could offer no reply to Rooney.

Andy Dawson - 4 - Struggled to stop the supply of crosses from Nani and made little impact when rushing forward to support Hunt.

Richard Garcia - 5 - Excelled in this fixture at the K.C. Stadium, but lightning didn't strike twice. Gave Evra a much easier afternoon's work this time. Hooked for Ghilas.

Nick Barmby - 5 - No influence on the game. Lung power required to support Fagan seemed to be a thing of the past. Taken off for Mendy.

George Boateng - 4.5 - Incredibly ineffective 90 minutes from the Premier League veteran. Lost out to Scholes in the battle of the oldies, giving the United maestro far too much space to orchestrate play.

Geovanni
- 6 - Tricked his way past markers a number of times without making a dent on the game. Substituted for Kilbane.

Stephen Hunt - 5 - Failed to offer a threat from the left wing and left no impression in an attacking sense.

Craig Fagan - 5 - Thankless task as the lone man up front wasn't helped by his team-mates' inability to get forward. Offered no threat at all as he was swamped by the attention of the United defenders. Floored by Ferdinand in off-the-ball incident and booked for protest.

Substitutes

Bernard Mendy - 6 - Used his pace to unsettle Evra and created the space to put in a number of crosses.

Kevin Kilbane - n/a

Ghilas
- 6.5 - Sweet turn almost led to a Hull equaliser before Rooney ran riot.
