ARSENAL

Mannone: 6.5 -
Looked nervy on his Champions League bow midweek conceding twice in the opening five minutes. Was largely untested this afternoon. Got good gloves to a Rodallega strike.

Sagna: 7.5 -
As Wigan began to enjoy their greater clear-cut chances, Bacary Sagna was there to frustrate, acting as a reliable last man of defence.

Vermaelen: 9.0 -
A minor error during the early stages was effectively countered with a well-taken headed goal. His first on home terrain. Looked composed and comfortable at the back, again. Scored twice - his second was sensational.

Gallas: 7.5 -
Acquainted himself with the deck on more than one occasion as he received a litter of clobbering challenges. Is developing a good partnership with Vermaelen. Covered the Belgian international well.

Clichy: 7.0 -
Did well on the outside, especially nullifying some of the dribbling runs of N'Zogbia.

Eboue: 7.5 -
A lively performer. Eduardo looked confused as to whether or not it was he who could claim the third goal, but the Ivorian made a slight touch (that he may not have known about) to wrong-foot the last standing Wigan men.

Song: 6.0 -
Robust challenging eventually led to a cautionary booking for bringing down Gomez who was breaking free. Robbed of the ball in dangerous places. Could have scored a fantastic goal after a 30-yard run.

Fabregas: 7.0 -
Linked up well with the attacking line in front of him. Most of the game seemed to pass him by. Showed good play in tight areas. Scored at the game's death after Bendtner thumped in an accurate cross.

Diaby: 6.5 -
Attempted a bizarre hail-Mary shot on goal early on, ended up in the stands. Like the Standard Liege performance, Diaby's display was a mixed bag. Some good, some bad.

Eduardo: 8.0 -
Despite constituting one-part of an attacking trident, he dropped deep and tried to deliver incisive passes. His early ball from the wide areas was made to the right positions. Helped round off a good move before the hour-mark after Wigan's goal was pounded.

Van Persie: 7.5 -
Got himself into the good positions for the shot, but he failed to convert any of them. One in particular where he was onside, chested the ball down, had time to pivot properly and shoot, but struck too swift and saw the ball skip harmlessly out of play. Set up Vermaelen's second.

Subs -

Ramsey: 6.5; Rosicky: n/a; Bendtner: n/a.

WIGAN ATHLETIC

Kirkland: 7.0 -
Despite the first-half concession, he saved a host of chances. One from Van Persie. For the third he was rooted to the spot after Eboue nipped the ball away from his gloves. Wigan could have been on the wrong end of a larger scoreline had it not been for him.

Melchiot: 7.0 -
Played a high line on the right flank, tried to inject his side with some inspirational forward runs. Most noted for unintentionally destroying Rosicky's jersey with his studs while the attacker was grounded... but the Czech Republic star found the funny side.

Boyce: 6.0 -
An average display from the north Bucks-born defender.

Bramble: 7.0 -
His well-built frame proved problematic for Arsenal players to manoeuvre around, but often the referee's call would go against him for perceived excessive force. Used good prevention methods to deny Diaby a route to goal following Arsenal's second.

Figueroa: 7.0 -
Crucial block halted a Van Persie effort inside 15 minutes.

Thomas: 6.5 -
Required no hesitation to get himself involved. Along with the rest of Wigan's midfield, though, lacked consistency in play and failed to string good pass-and-move passages.

Diame: 7.0 -
The French starlet, a summer signing from Rayo Vallecano, appears to be a good technical player. Ironically, he was once a reported target of Arsene Wenger.

N'Zogbia: 7.5 -
Fundamental to some of Wigan's early attacking play that helped encourage the away side. Enjoyed much of the ball.

Gomez: 6.0 -
A decent performer in the final third.

Koumas: 6.0 -
Looked to play-make from deep. Was replaced by Paul Scharner within ten minutes of the restart.

Rodallega: 7.5 -
His running helped draw the Gunners rear-guard out of position, and he got himself into the right areas to receive a pass. Needed company up front, was too isolated. His shots were often directed at Mannone's mitts.

Subs -

Scharner: 7.0; Scotland: 6.0; Sinclair: n/a.
