Pick your Manchester United team to face AC Milan
How will your Champions League line-up compare with Sir Alex Ferguson's?
By Matt Monaghan | Manchester United correspondent
Calling all armchair managers! The time has come to pit your wits against Sir Alex Ferguson and see whether he agrees with your team selection for Manchester United's Champions League match against AC Milan.
Wayne Rooney's return to training has boosted a United camp eager to finish their Italian job. 'Wazza's' goals handed them a 3-2 advantage from the San Siro and he should go right back into Ferguson's selection.
Attack could be the best defence against Milan with any strike for United giving the visitors an almost impossible task to claw themselves back into the tie. This approach, and a desire to rest Rooney's weary knees, ensures that Dimitar Berbatov will start.
Bigger problems for Ferguson can be found in midfield after suspension ruled Michael Carrick out. The England international has been in fantastic form, though the return of Darren Fletcher more than compensates for his loss.
Injury to Anderson and inexperience from Darron Gibson will push the United supremo to go for a four-man midifeld. Nani's erratic left wing display against Wolverhampton Wanderers is good news for Ji-Sung Park, while Scholes will fit in alongside Fletcher.
Veteran right back Gary Neville will also nudge out Rafael da Silva after the Brazilian's 90-minute nightmare against Ronaldinho in the first leg. The welcome sight of Nemanja Vidic and Rio Ferdinand back together helps to banish the memory of the injured Jonny Evans travails against the Rossoneri.
Availability:
Goalkeepers: Edwin Van der Sar, Tomasz Kuszscak, Ben Foster.
Defenders: Gary Neville, Rio Ferdinand, Nemanja Vidic, Rafael da Silva, Fabio da Silva, Patrice Evra, Ritchie De Laet.
Midfielders: Antonio Valencia, Nani, Ji-Sung Park, Gabriel Obertan, Paul Scholes, Darren Fletcher, Darron Gibson.
Attackers: Wayne Rooney, Dimitar Berbatov, Mame Biram Diouf.
Leave your team selection in the comments below, using semi-colons to separate positions and working from right-to-left. For example, here’s Goal.com UK's preferred lineup, using a fluid 4-4-2 formation:
Van der Sar; Neville, Vidic, Ferdinand, Evra; Valencia, Scholes, Fletcher, Park; Rooney, Berbatov.
Substitutes: Kuszczak, De Laet, Rafael da Silva, Nani, Obertan, Gibson, Diouf.
