Newcastle United to hold contract talks with Andy Carroll to thwart interest from Stoke City & Birmingham City - report

Chris-Hughton
Newcastle United will reportedly hold talks with Andy Carroll over a new contract, to ensure that interest from Birmingham City and Stoke City does not sway the striker.

The 21-year-old scored a plethora of goals as the Magpies made their way back into the Premier League. But it had previously been speculated that the hitman could make a move to land a fatter wage packet, as he was reported to be amongst the lowest earners at St James' Park.

Now, The Daily Mail reports that Newcastle are set to hold contract talks with Carroll, who will also be handed the Tyneside club's iconic No 9 shirt.

Stoke and Brum have been reported to be keen on procuring the services of the striker.

Meanwhile, Newcastle are believed to be in pole position to sign Norway Under-21 international Marcus Pedersen from Stromsgodset.
