Newcastle United keen to fight off Birmingham, Bolton and Stoke interest and keep striker Andy Carroll - report
Newcastle United will fight to keep Birmingham City, Bolton Wanderers and Stoke City target Andy Carroll at St James Park when the Magpies return to the Premier League next season.
Carroll helped Newcastle finish at the top of the Championship this season, scoring 17 league goals this season.
Despite the striker’s impending assault trail in October, Newcastle intend to stand by the 21-year-old, who has pleaded not guilty to the charge.
Representatives for the England Under-21 international have started talks with Newcastle officials about a new deal as Carroll’s current contract ends in 2013, according to The Guardian.
Newcastle boss Chris Hughton believes that Carroll will be an important part of the club’s future and that the striker is thrilled to be a part of the Magpies Premier League campaign.
"Andy is a big player for us now and in the future. He is very excited about being a Premier League player for Newcastle United,” Hughton said.
