Manchester City boss Roberto Mancini has reportedly added Sampdoria star Andrea Poli to his summer transfer wish-list.

The 20-year-old impressed watching City scout Barry Hunter during his side's 2-1 win over Lazio at the weekend, according to The Manchester Evening News.

Hunter had originally attended the game to run the rule over two strikers, Sampdoria's Giampaolo Pazzini and Lazio's Mauro Zarate, but came away with rave reviews for Poli, an Italy Under-21 international.

Poli has been likened in some quarters to Frank Lampard or Steven Gerrard, modelling himself on the attacking midfielders with his athleticism and runs into the box.

City are reportedly ready to spend big money in the summer to strengthen their squad, with Serie A the likeliest site for the majority of their business. The £18 million-rated Poli looks to have added himself to the shopping list, although it is not certain the player will be persuaded to leave Stadio Luigi Ferraris.

"I know I'm young and still need to improve," Poli said recently.

"I'm also sure that Samp is the best club to help me achieve this goal."
