Cesc Fabregas' future has long been rumoured to lie at either Barcelona or Real Madrid, but it seems the player's current club, Arsenal, are keen to rubbish such claims and retain their star player.

As reported today in both the Daily Mirror and AS, Arsenal's director general Ivan Gazidis has issued a letter to Barcelona for the Catalan club to cease and desist their very public campaign to prise Fabregas away from England.

Gazidis referenced what have come to be daily reports out of the Catalunyan press that repeatedly link Fabregas to a summer move to Barca and reiterated the fact that Arsenal will not sell their visionary midfielder.

Fabregas is a former Barca youth product who, seeing limited opportunities to break into the first team, left for Arsenal where he has flourished into one of the world's most talented midfielders. He has since been coveted by his former club along with Real Madrid and has earned regular call-ups to the Spanish national team.

Arsenal are currently said to be in negotiations with Fabregas for a five-season contract extension in which the player is reported to earn more than €6 million in each season. The release clause, if such a contract is signed, will likely price Fabregas out of the range of even the world's richest clubs.
