Brazil star and Manchester City wantaway Robinho has doubled his personal protection squad to eight for his loan spell at Santos after City insisted on extra security in case of kidnap and ransom attempts while he is in Brazil.
The increase was a condition of the loan deal that took Robinho back to his homeland until the World Cup, and is costing the player £10,000 a week, claims Mirror Football.
None of the 26-year-old's family will be without personal protection during his stay with Santos in a country where gangs target the rich and famous with kidnap attempts and ransom demands.
Robinho was forced to pay out £50,000 to one of Brazil's most wanted criminals five years ago after his mother was held captive for 41 days.
The grab took place just weeks after the player's £18 million move from Santos to Real Madrid was announced.
City and their insurance brokers were not prepared to risk a repeat this time around and instructed the player to hire more security at his own expense; Santos are believed to be sharing the costs.
