Everton manager David Moyes is confident of beating off stiff competition to sign Leeds United striker Jermaine Beckford at the end of the season.
Beckford’s contract expires at Elland Road in June, when he will be available on a free transfer, and according to the Daily Star Goodison Park appears to be his next destination.
The tabloid claims that the striker plans to finish the current campaign with United before moving to Merseyside, where he is attracted by the prospect of working under Moyes.
A number of other clubs have been linked with the prolific marksman, including Newcastle United, who are believed to have had a bid for the striker rejected.
The 26-year-old has been thrust into the media spotlight this season after his FA Cup heroics helped knock Manchester United out of the competition, before he bagged a brace against Tottenham Hotspur in the following round to force a replay.
In addition to his domestic cup exploits, Beckford has also scored 24 times for the Whites this season as they aim to secure promotion back to the Championship.
The club are currently second in the table, three points behind leaders Norwich City, with two games in hand.
