Manchester City forward Robinho is hoping that his forthcoming loan deal back to Brazil is a one-way exit route, according to a report from The Guardian.

Citizens gaffer Roberto Mancini yesterday revealed that his club were in talks with Santos and Sao Paulo both keen on loan moves for the unsettled forward, who has looked short of fitness and form this season.

He has also formed a bad impression of England and does not want to return, with his representatives hoping that they can revive interest from Barcelona.

Meanwhile, Santos and Sao Paulo are falling over each other to sign the player.

A party of delegates from Santos were in Manchester yesterday holding talks about the player, and the club seem sure of signing him, having begun to sell shirts with his name on at the club shop.

However, Robinho apparently does not want to lower his £160,000 a week wage demands, which could be a stumbling block as Santos still need to attract enough sponsors to pay the player.

Sao Paulo acknowledge that they are behind Santos in the pecking order, but still hold some hope of securing the striker.

"We've been contacted by agents from England saying that Roberto Mancini would like Robinho to move to Sao Paulo [rather than Santos] because we have a bigger international profile and will play in the Libertadores Cup, which would be more effective in bringing his value up again, which is exactly what they want," said Sao Paulo director, Carlos Augusto de Barros e Silva.

"From then onwards, Sao Paulo got interested. We've had representatives in Manchester since Saturday."

The Sao Paulo president, Marco Aurelio Cunha, argued otherwise, and said: "Santos is way ahead but Sao Paulo will be in the Libertadores and, perhaps, Robinho may want to play that competition."
