Manchester United manager Sir Alex Ferguson has repeatedly claimed that Nani will remain at Old Trafford, but the Portuguese winger continues to be linked with a January window exit, with Fiorentina reportedly heading the queue for the player's signature.

According to Italian journal La Nazione, the Serie A side regard Nani as the ideal replacement for Juan Manuel Vargas, who is reportedly being monitored by some of Europe's biggest clubs, including Real Madrid.

Nani is yet to establish himself fully in Ferguson's first-team, yet the Scotsman is keen to keep the player.

He recently said: "Some big clubs have been mentioned for Nani, like Milan and Benfica, but there has been no contact made with us – and we wouldn’t entertain selling him anyway.

"He is only 23. If someone came in for Nani in January we would tell him that he is going absolutely nowhere."
