Croatia boss Slaven Bilic turns down Scotland job in favour of Premier League return - report

Slaven Bilic - Croatia-Germany (Firo)

Croatia manager Slaven Bilic has turned down the chance to be the new Scotland manager, according to his agent Rudi Vata.

Vata, who played in Scotland for Celtic, says Bilic would prefer to manage in the English Premier League, and would have considered the Portsmouth job after Paul Hart's recent departure.

"I recently had a request about the Scotland national team and Bilic was not interested in that at the moment," Vata told Portsmouth-based newspaper The News.

Vata said clubs in Germany and England were interested in the former West Ham United centre-back.

"He [Bilic] was heavily involved with the Croatian national team in the summer and couldn't make any move," Vata added.

"Now he is in a position where he can sit down and study all of the offers available.

"The English Premier League is one of the top leagues in Europe. It all depends on the offer if one came in. He wants to make the right decision and he wants to make the right move."

Bilic has been linked with a return to West Ham should Gianfranco Zola lose his job at Upton Park while Scotland are yet to find a replacement for George Burley.
