The Germany international believes the Gunners need to match the preparation and focus of their title rivals if they are to end their eight-year trophy drought next seasonPer Mertesacker has urged Arsenal to become more consistent like Manchester United and Manchester City in order to challenge for the Premier League title next season.
The Gunners have failed to claim the top-flight trophy since 2004 and only narrowly secured a top-four Champions League finish last season.
And Mertesacker feels the club would have a better chance of ending their eight-year wait for a trophy if they follow the example of the Manchester clubs by adding a greater degree of consistency to their game.

"It's very hard to be consistent and that's the main reason for Manchester City and Manchester United being successful in the last two years.
"They have shown for the whole season that they are consistent and that will be our main focus for the next season to show that as well."
Arsenal stand to enter the new season in a stronger position than last year and the German international, speaking ahead of the club’s pre-season friendly in Indonesia on Sunday, puts this down to keeping key players at the Emirates.
"We haven't sold any players yet so we are coming from a good base. We're at a good level and no one is leaving," he added.
"Maybe someone will come and strengthen our squad, so it's a better position to be in than last summer when we lost two important players [in Robin van Persie and Alex Song].
"I would say consistency is the most important thing. If we can do that, then we should be challenging for trophies and titles."
