The Toffees have agreed an £8.6 million deal with the Dutchman's current club Feyenoord and he is keen to aim high once his move to Goodison Park is completed

Leroy Fer has expressed his belief that Everton can contend for a Champions League spot once his arrival at the club is confirmed.

Feyenoord have agreed an £8.6 million deal with the Toffees which should see the Dutchman make the switch to Goodison Park in the coming days.

And, though the midfielder has denied being influenced to join the Merseyside outfit by compatriot Johnny Heitinga, he is excited by Everton's potential this term.

"I did not speak with John Heitinga, I hardly spoke to anybody. It all happened so fast," the midfielder told De Telegraaf.
TUESDAY TRANSFER ROUND-UP
5/1 Marouane Fellaini is 5/1 with bet365 to score the opening goal in Everton v WBA

"I've only played once in England with FC Twente and that was against Fulham. I represented all the youth teams of the Dutch national squad, so I played a few times against England too, but I'll experience it all now.

"The Premier League suits my game. As a little boy I always followed the Premier League and even though a transfer in January not ideal, I think Everton is a great club, which will contend seriously for a place in the Champions League.

"Moreover, the Premier League is a league that I always wanted to play football in."

Meanwhile, FC Twente chairman Joop Musterman expressed his disappointment at Fer's departure, despite the sizeable transfer fee received.

"As a clubman I'm dissapointed, but as businessman I'm satisfied. We did a good job when it's came to investment. Leroy was simply unstoppable," he added.

"He could earn so much more over there. He wanted to go to Everton a thousand per cent and if you don't let him go, then you will have big problems."
