thumbnail Hello,

The Argentine legend has expressed an interest in working in the country, after he was sacked by UAE club Al Wasl last month

Diego Maradona has revealed that he would like to coach a club side in China.

The news comes after Goal.com revealed last month that negotiations had begun to take the Argentina legend to an unnamed Chinese club.

The controversial 1986 World Cup Winner was until recently coach of UAE club Al Wasl FC, but was sacked after a series of poor results.

Speaking after arriving in Beijing, where he will begin an eight-day charity visit of the country, Maradona told a China Daily press conference: "I would like to train in China. I would like to contribute to the development of Chinese youth football."

Agents of the former Argentina international have been in contact with officials in the capital in recent months, to gauge their willingness to hire him as coach of the national team, according to La Gazzetta dello Sport.

If Maradona were to begin plying his trade in China, he would be following in the footsteps of a number of current and former European stars.

The Chinese Super League is now home to former Chelsea stars Didier Drogba and Nicolas Anelka.

The two strikers play for Shanghai Shenua - now managed by Sergio Batista, who succeeded Maradona as national team coach after the 2010 World Cup.
