Former Spain international Guti's hopes of continuing his playing career in China appear slim after big-spending Shanghai Shenhua declared they weren't interested in his services.

The 34-year-old former Real Madrid midfielder had indicated in December that he'd like to move to China after being released by Turkish club Besiktas in November.

Guti had told Punto Pelota: "There are many possibilities [for me] to go to China."

However, Guti's options in China's Super League appear to be limited with nothing materialising of the reported interest, while Shenhua this week declared they weren't chasing his signature.

Shenhua's French boss Jean Tigana indicated that he felt Guti was too old and that the club had adequate cover in midfield.
