Porto president Pinto da Costa has stressed that coach Vitor Pereira will not leave the club before the end of the 2012-13 season.

The 43-year-old coach has come under fire after the Europa League holders crashed out of the Champions League after finishing behind Zenit St. Petersburg and APOEL Nicosia in the group stage.

Pinto da Costa has given Pereira a vote of confidence and added that the former assistant to Andre Villas-Boas does not have his job under threat.

"The future of every coach and player depends on results, but I can guarantee that Vitor Pereira will see out his two-year contract with Porto," he told SIC.

"Most people who criticise him do not have the slightest knowledge of football to be able to evaluate Vitor Pereira or anyone else.

"The others do not know anything about his work, they based their judgement on results: when they are good, the coach is good, when they are bad, so is the coach.

"That kind of criticism does not change my decisions, nor do they affect the coach."

Porto are joint leaders in the Portuguese Liga, with 33 points from 13 matches, while they will tackle Manchester City in the Europa League Round of 32.
