Germany international Philipp Lahm has stated that last year's World Cup semi-finalists have made steps forward, but are not yet of the same level as reigning European and world champions Spain.
"We have certainly continued to develop in a positive way, but we have definitely not reached the end of that process yet. Spain still represent the gold standard," Lahm was quoted as saying on the official Fifa website.
"Results at the last three major tournaments indicate we are heading in the right direction, but we have yet to exploit our full potential. We are determined to win a trophy."
Lahm then went on to say that the Germans are on a par with the other major footballing countries and added that Joachim Low's side have the class to win silverware.
"We have shown we are on a par with Brazil and the other major footballing nations. Spain are still a step ahead, but we have closed in. We have a young team, and we have the quality to keep developing over the next few years, and win trophies."
