Argentina will not announce Diego Maradona's successor until November at the earliest
Caretaker boss Sergio Batista will continue in charge...
By Daniel Edwards
In a short statement released online, the AFA stated: "Once the Annual Assembly is completed [in the month of October], a National Selection Committee will be convened.
"Once [the limits and role of the new technical team] have been approved, the Committee will proceed with the designation of the new technical team. In consequence, any names or rumours about people who could be contracted at this point are absolutely unrelated to the Argentine Football Association."
The declaration means that current caretaker Sergio Batista will continue in charge until possibly the end of the year, with a new face entering in 2011 in preparation for next year's Copa America.
A string of Argentine coaches have already been linked with the Albiceleste job. Ex-Boca legend Carlos Bianchi is the fans' preferred choice, but due to a poor relationship with the AFA it is unlikely that he will assume the role. Other names mentioned include Estudiantes' Alex Sabella, Miguel Angel Russo of Racing Club and current free agent Diego Simeone, while Batista is also backed by many to carry on at the helm after success at youth level.
