Steve Bruce welcomes Marcos Angeleri to Sunderland
Bruce happy to bring 'outstanding' Argentine defender to Stadium of Light...
By Alex Richards
Sunderland manager Steve Bruce has expressed his delight at finally being able to welcome new signing Marcos Angeleri to the club, after problems with the defender's passport were resolved.
The former Estudiantes defender was finally able to fly out to Portugal to join up with his new team-mates on their pre-season campaign after delays with his paperwork — specifically Angeleri acquiring an Italian passport in order not to require a work permit — were resolved.
With the player's deal finalised, Sunderland boss Bruce is looking to help the 27-year-old adapt to English football as soon as possible.
"It's good news and it's great for him because he needs to work as soon as possible with us," Bruce told the Sunderland Echo.
"It has been a bit of a culture shock for him coming over and seeing what English football is all about but he is a top quality player and he will adjust.
"The reports we've had on him from Argentina were all outstanding and he is a player who will bring something extra to our squad."
