England striker Emile Heskey: The work Wayne Rooney and I have done on the training ground will pay off against Algeria
Aston Villa forward looks to build on strong showing against the USA
By Anthony Sciarrino
England attacker Emile Heskey is adamant that he and Wayne Rooney will form a better partnership against Algeria.
The Three Lions’ first-choice strike pair have had four more days of training at the Royal Bafokeng Sports Campus since England’s World Cup opening 1-1 draw against the United States last Saturday.
Heskey believes that the work with Rooney in training will pay off when England takes on Algeria on Friday.
"The more you play with any player, the more you get an understanding with them and that is the case with Wayne,” Heskey told The Mirror.
"We work together on the training field and we are well prepared to perform better if we get the chance again.
"Wayne's a great player. The pressure has been there throughout his career and he has dealt with it.
“He's been in the spotlight since he was 17 years old so he is used to that and won't let anything affect him."
Heskey, who was one of England’s best players against the USA, believes that the team can be encouraged by their performance against the Americans.
"I take the positives from that performance and try and take it into training and then the next game.
"I thought we really got at them in attack and created a few chances. They weren't comfortable with the way we played as we caused them problems and we can do that again."
