Barcelona midfielder Xavi: I have told Cesc Fabregas to join me next season
Cesc being urged to head to the Camp Nou...
By Paul Macdonald
Barcelona and Spain playmaker Xavi, has urged his international colleague Cesc Fabregas to engineer a move to Catalunya from Arsenal this summer.
The central midfield dynamo has admitted he would love to play alongside the Gunner's captain in the La Liga next season, as well as alongside him for his country.
Transfer speculation has persistently linked Fabregas with a return to Barcelona, where he cultivated his talent before making a switch to north London in 2003.
Fabregas has long resisted a move to Spain, but recently stated his desire to one day return to the Camp Nou and the latest comments by Xavi will only add more fuel to the fire.
“I would like him [Cesc Fabregas] to come [to Barcelona], and I have told him so. I have no doubt that Cesc would triumph at Barcelona,” Xavi told Barca TV.
The Blaugrana have made no secret of their desire to lure the talented 23-year-old back to Spain this summer as they bid for a third successive La Liga title.
Fabregas, who has played more than 200 times for Arsenal, has seen a sparse amount of silverware at the Emirates in recent years and could be tempted by the lure of filling his mantlepiece.
Barcelona were lauded by all quarters last season for their free-flowing football and level of performance, with Xavi insisting the XI representing the club each week always strive for perfection.
“We set the bar very high. Everyone wants to come to Barca [Barcelona], and each passing year we get better," he added.
“You have to play at a level which is ten out of ten. You have to play perfectly.”
