Arsenal chairman Peter Hill-Wood: We hope Barcelona get the message about Cesc Fabregas and back off
Gunners stand firm in face of Catalans' interest...
By Matt Monaghan
Arsenal chairman Peter Hill-Wood has urged Barcelona to get the message that they have no intention of selling club captain Cesc Fabregas.
The Gunners are reported to have rejected a £29 million bid for the Spanish international yesterday. This is believed, however, to be just the first stage in a summer-long push from the Catalan club to secure Cesc's signature.
Arsenal released a strongly worded statement on Wednesday in which they issued their determination to hold on to the 23-year-old, and this was echoed by Hill-Wood.
Speaking to the Daily Star, he said: “We have been consistent in stating that Cesc is not for sale. We rejected Barcelona’s bid and would rather they did not make another one.”
Fabregas is currently sitting 25th in the Castrol Rankings, despite a season derailed by a number of frustrating injuries. He still sits one place above Barcelona's highest rated midfielder, Xavi.
