Manchester City prepared to sell £7m Tottenham Hotspur transfer target Micah Richards - report

Manchester City are ready to sell £7 million Tottenham Hotspur target Micah Richards this summer, according to the Daily Star.

City boss Roberto Mancini is understood to be ready to cast aside the 21-year-old defender after a loss of form in recent campaigns and repeat injury problems. The imminent arrival of Hamburg utility defender Jerome Boateng will also rob Richards of further first-team opportunities.

On Monday, Mancini said City would refuse to sell their best players, but the Leeds-born right back is not believed to be in that group. He could now play Champions League football with Spurs next term as Harry Redknapp looks to boost his squad.

Jordan Henderson gets himself in a great shooting opportunity on the edge of the Manchester United area after combining well with Steven Gerrard and Luis Suarez, but the Liverpool midfielder’s touch takes a nick off a defender and the chance goes begging.

As much as I would like to continue describing the action on the pitch, the handshake situation is unavoidable. Replays show that Rio Ferdinand snubbed Luis Suarez, while it’s being mentioned on Twitter that police have had to confiscate Red Issue fanzines from outside the ground because of a rather disgusting back page. Click here to have a look.

Moments after Danny Welbeck so nearly gets on the end of a Rafael cross from the right, Antonio Valencia is involved in a decent Manchester United attack through the middle. With space in front of him and options either side, the Ecuadorian opts to pick out Ryan Giggs to his left, but the veteran’s cross is easily cut out. Should have done better with that.

Greg Stobart reports from Old Trafford: “Putting aside Luis Suarez’s disgraceful behaviour in refusing to shake Patrice Evra’s hand before kick-off, it’s been a good start to the game. Both teams are popping the ball around nicely and playing with energy, using the width of the pitch.  United winger Antonio Valencia and Liverpool right-back Glen Johnson are both causing problems for defenders early on with their pace and skill.”

I should also mention that Patrice Evra, still angry by the pre-match non-handshake, went in full-blooded for a slide tackle on Luis Suarez just a couple of minutes in... only to inadvertently send Rio Ferdinand tumbling instead. The centre-back looked to have hurt his neck but was soon back on his feet and is fine to continue. One thing's for sure - Evra is rattled.
